Yivo Y02 Review 2023
DesignI
Found the design of the Vivo Y02 eye-catching. The back panel, however, is made of glossy plastic and lends a premium tone to the design. It looks nice, to be honest. The single camera also looks clear with a circular module housed in a rectangular area. Running, it features a boxy form factor, which is great for this category. All in all, Vivo Y02 has to be the best looking phone in the 15k price bracket in Nepal.

Display
The Y02 has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel. Display calibration is set to a warm tone by default. Thankfully, the calibration is adjustable and I can set the display tone to my liking. Speaking of its quality, screen contents look vibrant and sharp with a warmer calibration.
Sunlight readability is also acceptable for its price. If you’re someone who watches TikTok, Reels or Youtube Shorts, the Y02’s display does its job well. So, the multimedia experience is decent on its screen.
VoLTE calls
Vivo Y02 supports VoLTE (Voice over LTE) on Nepal Telecom SIM. For those who don’t know, VoLTE primarily improves overall voice quality by using a 4G network for cellular calls. In my use, I found the calls to be quite loud and clear. I also tried to enable VoLTE for my Ncell SIM but the private telco doesn’t support Y02 so far. Note that Ncell already has a bunch of Vivo phones in its VoLTE support list and that too will be added soon, hopefully.
Performance and UI
Powering the phone is a 2018 vintage chipset, the Helio P22 This entry-level chip is definitely not for gaming. I tried playing some popular titles like PUBG and CODM and the result was as expected – super choppy and laggy with major FPS drops even on lowest settings. The SoC is not meant for these types of games and I then moved to light games to give it a fair chance. Less graphics-intensive games like Temple Run, Subway Surfer and Hill Climb Racing are playable.

The phone runs on FuntouchOS 12 based on Android 12 Go version. The UI looks clean and similar to stock Android but when it comes to performance, I found the experience quite laggy. Apps take a while to open and multitasking can create stuttering in the UI. This is related to the age-old entry-level chip used in this device. It ruins the experience most of the time.

Apart from that, there are Go Edition apps from Google like Gallery Go, Maps Go, Assistant Go, etc. On top of that, Funtouch OS 12 offers basic customization like charging animation, network speed etc.
Camera

Now let’s come to optics. The phone has a single 8MP camera on the back with no useless 2MP depth or macro unit.
Daylight shot
The Y02’s 8MP camera manages to capture decent-looking photos in daylight. Color tones are on the warmer side with higher saturation. As for me, I like warm tones but the Y02’s output can be awful at times.
Portrait
Coming to portraits, the Y02’s results are good for the price. However, it is not perfect and errors can be seen with edge detection.
Night
Don’t expect too much from an 8MP sensor for low light photos. Outputs struggle to maintain detail and sharpness. I would call it average for the price tag it carries.
Front camera
Since Vivo is a selfie-centric company, even the 5MP front camera clicks decent selfies. Skin tones are generally good and portraits are mostly social media ready.
Battery

This guy is only 8.55mm thick but has a 5000mAh battery inside. Talking about its backup, it easily lasts for a day with average usage. This should last more than a day for light users. However, it does not support fast charging and the 10W charger takes about 3 hours to fill the cell through its micro USB port. There is no USB Type-C port.
Vivo Y02 Review: Conclusion
Now, let’s go to the conclusion. Vivo Y02 is a gorgeous looking phone with an attractive design and boxy form factor. The design brings a premium vibe to the budget segment. But the UI experience is a drawback. I know it’s a budget phone but the Helio P35 delivers a laggy experience both in gaming and day-to-day use.
Tecno Camon 16 Premier Price in Bangladesh
If only, Vivo used a better SoC here. Another thing worth mentioning is the mono speakers on top. It sounds a bit distorted when played at maximum volume.
Other than that, the camera experience was pretty decent. You get better photos in daylight. And the same goes for selfies. Battery backup lasts for a day with moderate usage. Apart from that, the phone is an ideal choice for those who prefer good camera experience as well as looks over performance.
Highlights
Vivo Y02 comes with 6.51 inch HD+ IPS LCD screen. It has a full-view waterdrop notch design. The rear camera is single 8 MP with autofocus, f/2.0 aperture, LED flash etc. and full HD video recording. The front camera is 5 MP. Vivo Y02 comes with 5000 mAh battery and 10W fast charging. It has 2 GB RAM, octa-core CPU and PowerVR GE8320 GPU. It is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 (12 nm) chipset. The device comes with 32GB internal storage and dedicated microSD slot. This phone does not have a fingerprint sensor.
Other features include FM Radio, Dual SIM, Face Unlock etc.
