Apple iphone 6 Specifications and reviews
The iPhone 6 is one of the most popular smartphones on the market. But what makes it so special? In this article, we will take a closer look at the specs and reviews of the iPhone 6 to see what all the fuss is about.
In 2014, Apple rolled out its iPhone product line, simultaneously introducing the next generation of its flagship model — the iPhone 6 — and debuting its super-sized sibling, the iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 is an exceptional phone in almost every respect but for its mediocre battery life. The iPhone 6 Plus is also impressive; Bigger and thinner than other iPhone models, and with much more endurance on a single charge than comparably sized and smaller competitors.
When choosing between the 6 and 6 Plus, ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference. I know many people who love the iPhone 6 Plus, with its larger screen size and better battery life. But the iPhone 6 feels the best in my hands. It’s slim, elegant, performs really well and is considerably less expensive than the 6 Plus. For that reason, I think the smaller iPhone 6 is the way to go for most people.
Design
iPhone 6 opts for soft curves and a seamless join between screen and back. It’s a different look from the iPhone 5S, which has glossy machined edges. It’s all glass and metal, except for some plastic detailing on the back, and looks great for it.
It is not as attractive as its predecessor. The angular design of the iPhone 5S makes it stand out even more. It’s the same with the iPad mini and iPad Air, although they marry diamond-cut edges with rounded metal sides.
It may not be immediately arresting, but the iPhone 6 looks like it was cut from a single piece of metal and glass and seamlessly assembled. The effect is especially strong with the space gray finish and screen off. It’s a beautiful slab of black glass and anodized aluminum. Although we think the design is safer than ground breaking. The white bezel on the silver version ruins the seamless effect a bit – we’d go for space gray every time.
iPhone 5S, left, next to iPhone 6
As always with Apple’s phones the iPhone 6 has a great balance, it feels right in your hand. The comfortable edges are much easier on the palm than the iPhone 5S’s sharp ones, and the 6.9mm thickness makes it feel sleek yet sturdy.
Some owners are claiming that it may not be as powerful as Apple hopes. Reports of iPhone 6 bending in pocket surfaced. We put it in the front pocket of our jeans and haven’t had any issues in the months we’ve been using it or the iPhone 6 Plus. We’re not talking about super skinny jeans, but we’ve cycled with it in tight pockets and there’s no bend in sight. In fact we have heard very little about it since the initial excitement. We’ve heard similar reports about the Samsung Galaxy S6 but we wouldn’t worry about it unless you want to use your iPhone 6 as a reviewer.
Although we suggest you go out for a case. As with all phones, if you drop the screen and iPhone 6 repairs aren’t cheap, you run the risk of breaking the screen.
It’s big, but not too big
Even though the iPhone 6 is big, it doesn’t feel too big. Besides being much thinner and lighter at just 129g, it’s very similar in form to the original HTC One, one of our favorite phones of 2013. If you have small hands, you may struggle to get to the top corner of the screen, but we didn’t experience these issues.
If you find the iPhone 6’s screen too big, there’s some help. Some Android phones have one-handed usage features, but they’ve never felt particularly intuitive. They often shrink the entire screen diagonally down. Apple has come up with a typically elegant solution. Double-tap the home button and the entire top of the screen drops down, bringing all the hard-to-reach areas with your thumbs. It works in every app that works in portrait mode too, so you can easily navigate to the address bar or browser without any issues.
Realizing a power button on the top of a phone this size doesn’t work, Apple has removed it. The power button is on the right edge, above the nanoSIM tray. This makes it easy to access with your thumb, if you’re right-handed, or your index finger, if you’re left-handed. It works much better than the HTC One M8’s top power button which takes a bit of juggling to get to if you’re not ET.
In all other respects the format of the iPhone 6 is the same as the previous versions. The slightly recessed volume button sits on the left just under the mute toggle. The 3.5mm headphone jack resides at the bottom, along with the Lightning port and six eye-catching holes for speakers.
There’s only one area where the iPhone 6 deviates from sleek, seamless design principles, and that’s with the rear camera. Due to the slimness of the phone, Apple has had to move the camera slightly away from the body in order not to compromise on image quality. But it’s not as serious as some other phones. Put a case on and you won’t notice it at all, but you will feel it when holding the phone in landscape. Helpfully, the edges are lightly chamfered, which means it slips into the pocket without snagging at all.
All in all, the iPhone 6 has a masterful design. It doesn’t scream ‘look at me’, instead it’s refined, elegant and ergonomic, great for long periods of use, whether you’re gaming or visiting your favorite sites. Do we like it better than the HTC One M8’s design? The jury is still out; We at the Office of Trusted Reviews have mixed opinions.
There is one final thing to talk about. The iPhone 6 isn’t as water or dust resistant as the Galaxy S5 or Sony Xperia Z3. If this is important to you, you need to choose a waterproof case or go for one of the Android phones.
